Updates

It's so hard to believe that we are half way through summer already! They say that time goes faster as you get older and it's so true. This spring was a bit busier then normal as after we were mostly done calving out cows, we added an AI program to a handful of our best cows plus our jersey cows. If all goes well, we should have some beautiful Salers babies from a couple AI bulls at the end of March 2025!

Bunny wise, things have been quiet. We bred some does this spring but only ended up with a very small number of bunnies as the girls have had a year off of breeding and I anticipate it being a bit tough to get them back into the breeding routine again. We hope to breed some more during any "time off" from silage within the next month here so would have litters in September or October.

We currently don't have anything available but would part with a couple older brood does who are looking for a good retirement home. Hopefully everyone's summer has been full of adventure, memories and fun times!

Updates

Its been a busy summer and fall here on the ranch but we're taking time to give an update. We cut the herd in half in the spring time and that was after a big cut a the previous fall as well. Although we are certainly down on numbers, we are up on quality as we were really hard on what we kept back so only the best stayed. We haven't bred anything this summer or fall and have a few older juniors/younger seniors from earlier this year but we do plan on starting breeding up here in the next month or so. The fall has been so wonderful weather wise and we've been able to keep plugging away on our projects. We also got the herd vaccinated against RHD so feel more comfortable sending or showing animals this next bit. We'll do another quick update once we have the bunnies moved inside the barn for the winter and have some litters in the boxes. Until late winter, we don't expect to have any animals available.

Available Bunnies

We have updated the list with everyone that we currently have available. We will have nothing else available until the end of summer at the earliest and everyone is listed here. Transport is available down to the Bruderheim show this weekend, May 12-14 near Edmonton Alberta. Transport is also available to Calgary in early June however rabbits must be paid for prior to leaving here or to hold them for pick up.

Send me an e-mail at starlitrabbitry @ hotmail.com (remove spaces) if you are interested in anyone.

*SOLD* SLR's Thor, Black tort senior buck DOB June 9 2020 Registered. This guys a pretty decent buck but we have a full brother here that we like better and just too many nice tort senior bucks. Has been shown a fair bit and always places in the top half of large classes, just missing that something special to take top honors. He is and comes from a line of animals that carries great flesh condition. He's a busy boy but not a sprayer. Showable

* SOLD * SLR's F201 Broken tort senior doe DOB Jan 11/22. 2 junior legs. This girl is a big tank, I haven't weighed her but she's got to be 5 lbs if not a bit more. Obviously a normal doe but has beautiful type. Longer overall, excellent mother and good flesh condition. Just weaned a litter and is ready to go.
Brood

* SOLD * SLR's Clemmie Broken tort senior doe DOB April 3/2021 Registered. Has never been shown. Has a good body type and a good hindquarter. Carries extra length throughout but is a wonderful mom and brood doe. Dam to the doe above, we are keeping a daughter back to replace her. Brood

SLR's F204 Black and orange tri Senior buck DOB Jan 12/2022 Pet only due to his ears, they have come down a bit since these photos but he just lacks the type to meet the standard of perfections guidelines. Beautiful color on this guy, is outgoing and curious. Pet $40

For Sale

We went through a few bunnies here so have posted some of these for sale. They are mostly summer babies from last year that we grew out for the winter and have picked which sibling we want to hold back. I never thought I would say this but we have too many broken senior does so there's a few of those available. We are heading to the Valleyview AB Show on March 25/26 2023 and can transport these guys to the show for no transport fee as we are going anyways. They must be paid for though to be brought.

Send me an e-mail at starlitrabbitry @ hotmail.com (remove spaces) if you are interested in anyone.

Winter Update

Life has been a little crazy on the ranch this fall and we are so behind for evaluating the herd and posting the last of what is available this year. I'm hoping it's a job for tomorrow and will get them posted within the next few days. We also have a breeding list started and will try to breed some does for some spring juniors and that's the soonest that we will have juniors available.

We did send a few bunnies down to Farm Fair but were not able to attend due to the cows so I'm just waiting for official results back before I post the placements. We did manage to get a very exciting best of variety win with a black and orange tri junior doe, she's a nice little girl that we are excited for!

Hope all has been well with everyone!

Spring Sales

It's been a very quiet winter here with not too much happening but spring has sprung finally and we are almost done calving. There might be 50 left so we are catching up on our other spring projects. I have went through some of our winter grow outs and some of the bunnies born earlier this year so have some for sale.

Here's the bucks that are currently available.

* SOLD * SLR's F159 Tort SR Buck DOB Feb 3 2021. Showable but more brood quality. Lacks flesh condition and is on the smaller side with light bone. Nicely balanced guy to breed to those big brood does. Quite a mellow guy. Brood

* SOLD * SLR's F112 torted black and orange harlequin proven buck DOB Aug 1 2019 Show quality but unrecognized color. Love this guy and would be a great buck to add type to a tri/harli program. Nice relaxed but curious dude.  Brood

SLR's F198 Black and orange tri Jr buck DOB Jan 10 2022. Cute buck with a very tight crown so ears may never fully lop. Will be a small guy, around 3 lbs when full grown. Mellow guy currently. Pet

SLR's F204 Black and orange tri color Jr buck DOB Jan 12 2022. This guys a self based homozygous tri. Has a tight crown so ears may never fully lop. Beautiful color. Pet

* SOLD * SLR’s F195 Torted black and orange harlequin doe DOB July 27/21 Our last litter out of a phenomenal brood doe Blake. This girl has nice overall type but she’s a big brood doe that is long overall. Will make some good kits bred to a smaller short buck with decent color. Brood

* SOLD * SLR’s F191 Chestnut doe DOB July 26/21 She’s available to a pet only home. She’s on the shy side so would be a good bunny to come cuddle up with you on the couch on her terms but not a great fit to be packed around by kids all day.

Herd Reduction

Update Nov 5/21 - We have three rabbits left here that are still available, a torted harlequin buck F112, a harlequin doe F105 and a torted tri pet doe F184(This gal is located in Calgary currently). These guys are quite likely the last of what we will have available until spring. We still do have too many tort bucks but I'm still waiting on them to do a little growing before deciding who can look for a new barn, it's a good group of bucks!

We're cutting back our numbers again to be able to refocus a bit and have a less work since things on the ranch are always busy. There's some great brood animals here that can be shown however I only label animals as show quality if I expect them to consistently place in the top half of the class. There's no disqualifications on any of these guys so they are showable but what I would call brood quality with some great parts to add into a herd. If you need more information then please send me an e-mail at starlitrabbitry @ hotmail.com (remove spaces). We have transport heading south to Red Deer then to Calgary this next weekend.

We only managed to go through the entire herd today(that's a big job!) and have some photos of just a few of the ones currently available so will add more hopefully tomorrow.
