Breedings

As some of you know, we've had a HUGE new addition to the SLR family and that new addition is a day short of being 6 months old! We had a little boy in the summertime and that has kept up hopping for the last half a year so we haven't done too much with the bunnies. We are planning on heading to the Wetaskiwin show at the end of the month and also have bred a few gals. We'll be breeding a few more does over the next few days as well - whoever we don't plan on showing in Wetaskiwin.

Kindled Sunday Feb 5/17 Dove had five babies total, one of which was born dead, and one that died a short time after birth but she's still got 3 fat healthy happy bunnies in the box. One broken orange buck and two tort otter bucks. Both tort otter bucks will be FOR SALE once they are weaned from mom at 8 weeks and eating solids fine.  Reg. SLR's Oreo x SLR's Kavana - Due Feb 28/17 I'm not sure what to expect color wise from this cross(I think Kavana is a tort otter so am trying to prove that theory by breeding her to a self) We'll see if she has some otter babies!
Positive pregnancy Kindled Feb 28 - Five total with two broken black otters born DOA(1 was a peanut) and we lost a black otter kit a day after so she's got one black otter and one broken black otter. Kavana's also fostering the harli kit from Summer.
All the otters will be FOR SALE once they are weaned as we do not have room to have an otter color program! 1 solid black otter buck and 1 broken black otter doe

It SHOULD be blacks and oranges however I'm a little suspicious that James may actually be a tort otter so we might get some otters in this litter. I'm SO glad we got Olivia back and can do this test breeding as she has zero otter behind her!

SLR's Rabbits

We've officially moved the bunnies inside for the winter after our nice extended fall(minus the snow!). We've worked hard to have an outside set of cages, and an inside set of cages for each bunny plus a couple big outside runs and an inside playpen. I'm a bit of a clean freak so I like the cages and the barn clean enough to eat off of and having two sets of cages helps us maintain the high level of cleanliness for the bunnies. Since they are inside now we'll be leaving the lights on for longer periods of time so that we can get some of the does bred to kindle in January.

Fall Update

This is titled "Fall" however one peak outside and it should be called winter! We do live in northern Alberta and it's been white at home now for a good few weeks. There's currently over a foot of snow outside already so our fall I'm sure, is long gone! The bunnies are enjoying the last of their outside time before they all get moved into the barn for the winter. This doesn't mean that they won't get outside at all over the winter but on nice days we'll still be able to kick them out into the large covered run that doesn't get snow filled.

All the inside cages, dishes, bowls, toys, matts, etc. have been pressure washed so the bunnies have a nice clean place to live. We'll also be breeding most of the gals here so that we should have some babies available in January 2017. We have one brood or pet doe still looking for a new home - SLR's Jersey(info on her is located in two posts below this one) but otherwise we are sold out until next year.

We will post some updates on some bunnies here and the barn once everyone finishes shedding their summer coats and are moved into the barn for the winter. Until then we hope that you enjoy the beautiful "fall" weather!

This little guys lookin for a new home for winter time! He's an adorable little buck with a great personality to match. He's been handled lots by kids and adults so would make a good pet but he has nice enough type to also make a good brood buck. Good head, ears and crown with good bone, a good shoulder although a slight dip is present and a good midsection. He is a little pinched in the hindquarters and his color could be a bit cleaner. Brood $60 or pet $50(no papers)

For Sale Brood Does

We're posting some of our brood does for sale whom we have kept a replacement baby out of so these gals can go help someone else. * SOLD * SLR's F33 - Broken orange doe born on April 11 2016 out of GC Campo's Fire N' Ice(blk/org tri) and SLR's Torlee(blk/org harli). This gal has a beautiful little head, a good topline, great width in the front end and a powerful shoulder. She lacks width and substance to the midsection and needs a better hindquarter, ears are a bit wingy and bone is light. She'll be a good parts doe bred to a buck with a good hindquarter and heavy bone. Colors in background are blk/org tri & harli, blue otter, blue tort, chocolate, chestnut, black and black tort. She is not yet proven as she's only 5 months old, very sweet doe. Brood or pet $50.00

This gal is a proven brood doe producing colors such as orange, blk/org tri & harli. She has been a wonderful brood doe and will foster kits without issues. Colors in her background include blk/org tri, blue otter, blue tort, chocolate, chestnut, chinchilla, black steel and black. This photo of her was taken last summer shortly after she plucked herself for a litter so she's a little bald.

SLR's Jersey - Broken orange out of SLR's Chambler(blk/org tri) and Cutie Patootie T'fer Tigger(blk/org harli) DOB June 25 2014

Jersey has been a wonderful brood doe much like her mother above but better. She's a great doe to foster kits too and has her babies tucked into the nest all by herself. She is a smutty orange and has produced colors like blk/org tri & harli and oranges. Colors in background include blk/org tri & harli, blue/fawn harli, orange, blue otter, chestnut, chin and black steel. She's very much a doe in type and lacks thick bone and overall substance. Her crown is slipped & ears could be opened up. Cute little doe head and a wonderful personality. We're keeping a daughter and a son out of her so it's time for her to move on and give someone else some cute little babies.
